The present Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1956 and has been touring consistently since, with various leaders, playing an average of 300 live dates a year all around the world. Singer Nick Hilscher became the director of the touring band in 2012, replacing previous director Gary Tole .
Miller was a star of the ’30s/’40s, churning out hits like “In the Mood,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo” and “Moonlight Serenade.” He started the Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1938—but his life was cut short in 1944 when he went missing in action during World War II. The combination of the musicianship of the band, the musical arrangements played, RCA Victor's "Living Stereo" sound, and McKinley's direction lead to some magical recordings from that time period. It is with a view to that "McKinley era" that the current Glenn Miller Orchestra entered the recording studio in January 2013.

(This recording is from 1977. By way of example, I have a c.d. called "The Glenn Miller Orchestra: In The Digital Mood", a 1983 early digitally recorded set that doesn't sound nearly as good. I don't blame the digital part of the recording so much as I do the way it was miked and the amount of reverb that was added.
